Love and work

A few weeks ago, Allison Green at Ask A Manager wrote one of my favorite blogposts of all time.  She asked about secret career aspirations.  What would you want to do if you weren't doing your current job

I wanted to be a long distance truck driver.  Really.  I love driving.  I love traveling.  I love listening to the radio and music.  I love taking pictures.  Perfect combo.  Plus I could take the dog Samson with me everywhere. I even had my cab picked out.

Back to reality.  Seriously, with the exception of immigration, I have the best job ever. Since truck driving is probably not in this life time, I thought about the best parts of my job.  I get to spend my time thinking, writing, and doing. I work with terrific people tied together by a profound mission.

My very favorite part?  I love most when I get a call or an email that starts with this:  I have a problem

Then I get to help problem solve.  I find that most people know the answers to their questions, their problems, their issues.  Mostly they just need someone to listen, probe, affirm.   I love that.  Even if it's an immigration problem.

What do you enjoy most in your work?
