2012 in review

Some randomness to close out the year. It's been a great one.  I have learned some fun stuff.

Sometimes it's not about me.  There have been several occasions - meetings, situations, and events where in hindsight the only reason I was there was to help someone else.  I need to pay more attention to this.

Sometimes it is about me.  Usually that only involves my camera and dog.  That's about it.

I have been inspired by authenticity. I have seen some real leaders step up, make significant inroads, take some amazing risks, write some great blogs, and not worry about the outcome. Really, not worry.  Whew.

I am done with the shameless, self-promotion-disguised-as-humilty crap. I unfriend, unfollow, and disconnect with these kinds of people immediately. You shouldn't have to make a big deal about helping someone.
I spend more time saying thank you. I have been on the receiving end of some fantastic service.  People going routinely above and beyond.  Perhaps it is because I am looking for it, to say thank you. From the optometry assistant to the customer service assistant at Charter to our wonderful dog sitter.  It makes me feel all warm inside.

Profound gratitude. I lost a few friends this year and a colleague at work. Anytime I wake up breathing- able to get through the day with minimal effort (walking, typing, seeing, hearing) it is an unfreakingbelievably good day.

It's the IRL stuff that is most important. And I love taking pictures.  Everything is better with a picture.

Lastly, I like to drink milk straight from the container. Don't judge.

Happy New Year.  May 2013 be wonderful to you.
